Prompts for improvisation/composing
(it’s easy and fun)
We will dive into the question of making things, easily and letting them go
The format will be:
Chi Cultivation and a bit of my scramble technique and teaching as preparation for creating and making things solo, duet, and collaboratively with time for witnessing, which is optional.

The What is: Edges of composition, partnering, phrases from systems, making eccentric thought forms work together, rhythm
through repetition and practice, structure begins to appear
no judgment no doubt.

I have not taught prompts since I worked with Contraband in the 80s so this is a real joy.
I look forward to opening the toolbox again on construction and deconstruction.

Are you in your body? Someone else’s? Or in the “in between”?

Solo Neutral Follow (SNF) is a basic study in creating radical space. It is ex- hilarating and takes 100% attention 100% of the time. It is a training of fo- cus and concentration and multidirectional attention. This process will free you from criticism and develop spontaneity and discipline that will take you to the mat of responsibility. It takes commitment and suspension of beliefs. It is also quite exhausting. You will sweat. You will find freedom. This work was developed from my years of watching performers practice one mode of dancing as a skill and go on automatic, expecting different results.

Day 1: Practice SNF
Day 2: Performance practice followed by a wonderful experiment indoors and outdoors

This workshop focuses on the subtle body as a divining rod, anchoring into and through the body, tethering the mind, freeing the intuition and curiosity. We live in the body. Open to those who have participated in workshops with Sara before, and to those who are new but ready to dive into her work. Practices will include 8 directions/volumes of weight and space/the divine spine and implied direction/pouring states through the physical platform/trio work as the nuts and bolts of articulation - a slow dance. 

The workshop will begin each day with Chi Cultivation which wakes up, strengthens, and harmonizes the systems and oxygenates the body/mind. Sara Shelton Mann’s scramble technique follows - a series of practice exercises that prepares us for the research of the day. From there, we move into application: integration, questions and/or healing, writing, and choreographic puzzles. 

Please bring water, a notebook, and something to write with. This workshop is open to all levels and may reach a high level of physical intensity and focus, be prepared to sweat!
